‘So, where are we going then?’ Rose asked from her perch on the console bench, swinging her legs and looking at the Doctor expectantly. Her fingers worried unconsciously at the torn fabric of the seat, wriggling into the soft padding as the Doctor leapt around the console, grinning manically.
‘We, Mrs Doctor John Smith, are going on a honeymoon, where, apparently, there will not be any honey, which is a tad disappointing, but Jackie banned me from taking you anywhere with excess sugar. Don’t know why. Odd, that. Like she’s got something against sugar. Peculiar, your mother.’ Rose cleared her throat and the Doctor hurried on. ‘Did you know that honeymoons are not all about the honey? There’s no such ban on moons, though, which is immensely unfair to honey. Still, far be it for me to mess with traditions, even strange ape ones, so we are off on our honey free honeymoon, where there will be moons, lots and lots of moons, a surfeit of moons. It’ll be moontastic! But no honey. Absolutely none, narda, nowt.’ He snuck a look at Rose from around the Time Rotor, ‘there may, however, be jam!’
Rose laughed, revelling in his exuberance and his guilty glee at the expectation of fruity conserve. It was good seeing him like this – daft and almost bubbling over with happiness. He’d sniffed at Jackie’s insistence on a human wedding, but he still seemed to revel in it, especially the part that involved her wearing a shiny band on her finger. ‘Mine,’ he’d whispered against it, as soon as they were alone, his thumb rubbing against the external symbol of the mental bond between them.
After their honeymoon, the ring would come off and would join their other symbol of their relationship, her TARDIS key, on a chain around her neck. It was dangerous, wearing a wedding ring – on some planets it would mark her out as a slave, on others an easy target for kidnap and ransom and, the Doctor reasoned, she hardly needed any help in that direction. For now, though, and for the two weeks of leisure Jackie had made him promise to give her daughter, she could wear the ring and enjoy the traditional feeling of belonging.
As the Doctor grinned and bounded around the pumping Time Rotor, she watched him and let his general feeling of wellbeing seep through their link and soothe her. She knew he was still worried about the Beast’s prediction and their last two adventures, one disrupting their wedding preparations, had left him even more unsettled. Not that he’d said anything – for all the new found understanding that they were partners, equals in this life they led together, he was still a bit naff at communicating things. However, the fact that he’d spent every night since he’d rescued her from Mars wrapped around her, watching her sleep, was more eloquent than any words could be.
She guessed that his present euphoric silliness was a consequence of his having found them somewhere for this Earth tradition that was entirely harmless. She had no intention of calling him on it, though – she was still a little off-kilter after her latest run in with aliens who thought that her hormones made a nice meal and her body a nice domicile, and the prospect of a rest was welcome. Besides, she thought as the Doctor bent over the console, stretching for an out of reach switch, there were plenty of other things they could be doing as newly weds.
‘Are you staring at my bum, Mrs Smith?’
Rose started, raising her eyes guiltily, to discover the Doctor craning his head to peer at her from under his outstretched arm.
‘Yep,’ she affirmed, popping the ‘p’ with relish, ‘Gotta problem with that, Dr Smith?’
The Doctor stood slowly, giving her the full benefit of his rear for as long as possible before he turned. ‘Oh, not at all, Mrs Smith, assuming you’re planning on doing more than just looking.’ He waggled his eyebrows suggestively and Rose giggled, capturing her tongue between her teeth unconsciously as she struggled to restrain her mirth.
‘Dost thou mock, Mrs Smith?’ the Doctor advanced on her, his expression scandalised, and Rose snorted, only to gasp in delighted surprise as he leapt the last few feet towards her and thrust his hands onto the console bench either side of her thighs, pinning her and bringing his face tight into hers.
‘Depends,’ she breathed. ‘Whatcha gonna do if I am?’
‘Oh, then I’m afraid I’m going to have to teach you a lesson, Mrs Smith. It’s not polite to mock, you know.’ His mouth moved to her neck, his words breathed across the sensitive skin bared for him as Rose stretched her head backwards instinctively, giving him better access. ‘In fact…‘ he added, ‘it’s very,’ he pressed a kiss at the juncture of neck and shoulder, ‘very,’ he kissed the skin beneath her ear, grinning as she shivered, ‘very,’ he whispered into the shell of her ear, ‘rude.’ He nipped at her ear lobe, and Rose moaned, feeling heady need unfurling its hot fingers deep in her womb.
‘Oh, yes,’ he confirmed, extending the word in a contented hum as Rose’s needy fingers entwined themselves in his hair, tugging and caressing the soft, messy, disobedient tangle. ‘Very rude,’ he affirmed, leaning back a little so he could see her face, his lips ghosting across hers.
‘Rude and not ginger?’ Rose’s breath mingled with his and he drew it into his lungs hungrily, as if in so doing he could capture part of her within him.
‘Oh yes…’ The TARDIS lurched, flinging the Doctor onto his rear and Rose on top of him. ‘What?’ The Doctor shifted Rose off of him, unceremoniously dumping her on the floor beside him as he clambered to his feet. Staggering as the TARDIS rocked again, the Doctor grabbed hold of the console and angled the console screen towards him.
‘We’re landing,’ he announced, with a degree of surprise.
‘Already? You might have said!’ Rose grumbled, hefting herself from the floor when her husband singularly failed to be a gentleman and help her up.
As the Time Rotor stilled, she bounded towards the doors, eager to see where the Doctor had chosen for their honeymoon. She knew to expect moons, but beyond that he had been remarkably tight lipped.
‘Ah…’
Brimming with excitement, Rose pulled open the door, blinking as bright golden light flooded in.
‘Um, Rose…’ the Doctor began, only to snap his jaws around the remaining words as Rose spun to hug him tightly.
‘Doctor! It’s beautiful! I love it! ’
‘Um, good. Smashing. Top ho! Knew you’d like it!’ he gabbled, as Rose spun away and her feet tripped over the threshold and out onto the deep, golden sand.
As sand spilled over the tops of her trainers, Rose’s gaze took in the sparkling light blue ocean and the deep azure sky, where fluffy little clouds skittered. Where beach bled into land, blue, red and yellow flowers bloomed below statuesque palm tree type plants, leading the eye towards bright white beach houses. It was gorgeous, rather like the travel brochure views of Bermuda that she and her mum had poured over during cold winters when they’d yearned to be neither poor nor London locked. The air, warm against her skin, wafted delicious scents of blossom and heat and sea and brought the sounds of lapping waves and the exotic cry of birds. It was like slipping into a cocoon of delicious sensations and Rose closed her eyes to savour it.
She heard the TARDIS door close behind her and the soft shift of sand as feet moved in it, before the Doctor’s arms wrapped around her, hugging her back to his chest, and his chin settled on her shoulder.
‘You really like it?’
‘I love it! It’s perfect. Just like I’d imagined a honeymoon would be.’ She opened her eyes and twisted her head until, tilting her head up, she could press a kiss against his jaw. ‘Thank you.’
‘You are entirely welcome,’ he murmured, moving so that his lips could tease hers, only to straighten moments later, his posture stiffening as he stared ahead. Rose turned to follow his gaze as, expressionless, he told her what she could already see.
‘Looks like our welcoming party has arrived.’

Some how I doubt the welcoming party will be all that welcoming, but I'm crossing my fingers, and hoping for the best anyway, they deserve a nice break.
